FAQ - Chennai Runners Half Marathon and 10k

Registration     

1. What are the event categories?
There are 2 events that you can choose from:
        Half Marathon (21.1 kms)
        10 kms

2. How do I register?
You can register online through the website http://crhalf.doattend.com/. This supports registrations via credit cards, debit cards and netbanking.

We do not have any manual registration options available for individual entries. If you are a corporate organization who wishes to enlist multiple participants, or, if you do not have credit cards/ debit cards/ netbanking facility, please email info@chennairunners.com and we will be able to support you.

3. What is the registration fee?
The event registration fee, for each category,  is Rs. 500

4. Where is the event going to be conducted?
The event will be conducted in the sprawling and beautiful campus of IIT-Chennai. We have been granted special permission to organise our events in their campus.

5. When is the event scheduled? What are the timings?
The event is on Sunday, November 6, 2011. The Half-marathon starts at 6:00 AM and the 10k at 6:30 AM/

6. Can I cancel my registration?  Will there be any refund?
I am afraid there are no cancellations possible and registrations are non-refundable.

7. Can I change my event once I have registered?  i.e. I have registered for the Half Marathon, can I now change to a 10k? Or vice versa?
Changes are permitted until a week before the event, i.e. October 30, 2011. Please email info@chennairunners.com

8. Oops. I have made a mistake in one of my registration fields? How do I correct it?
Please contact us at info@chennairunners.com

9. There was a problem during registration. I have been charged but I did not receive a confirmation. What can I do?
Under exceptional cases, in case the transaction failed at the payment gateway stage, and if the money was debited but a confirmation was not generated, the money will be credited back to your account within 3 working days automatically.

However, please contact us with details of your registration - date of registration, name and your mail id and we will follow up to ensure the problem is tracked and closed.

10. Do you have any age restriction for participants?
The minimum age for 10K event is 12 years and Half-marathon is 18 years. Participants under 18 years require permission from their parents/guardians before participation.

10. Will I get a medal and/ or a t-shirt?
All registered participants will receive a t-shirt which is to be collected during bib distribution. The details of the bib distribution will be announced shortly.

All race finishers will receive a medal.

Training
There will be regular 10k and 21.1k runs organized by the Chennai Runners details of which will be emailed to the participants regularly. Please join our regular runs and train well.

There will also be special yoga sessions and strength training courses organized. These too will be emailed to the registered participants of the events.

Pre-Race Information
1.      Where do I collect my bibs?
This will be announced shortly. Please stay tuned for this.
Information will be emailed to all registered participants.

2.      Is there a course map available?
The entire run is conducted inside the beautiful environs of IIT-Madras. The 10k run will be a single loop starting and finishing at the stadium complex. The half marathon participants will have a slightly extended loop to be run twice.

The course map with descriptions will be made available in this site shortly.

3.      Are there any training runs scheduled?
Yes, please do join the Chennai Runners regular runs to train well, get tips from seasoned runners and prepare well for the event. Please check this link for the schedule, distance, start time for the regular runs.

4.      Is there any cause or charity that I can support by running this race?
Yes. Deepam is an NGO working to empower lesser-privileged children with access to information and opportunity. Deepam's hope is to light the spark in the child’s mind and make them curious for life, through computer classes, English lessons and personality development. Please check Deepams home page for more information.

You can also support any charity of your choice by a fund raising initiative by running this race.

Race Day
1.      Directions to the venue and the starting point
IIT-Madras is the venue. The exact start point and the directions to the start point will be posted here shortly.
2.      Do you provide any transportation to the venue?
No. :-), but it is easily accessible from any part of the city. If you are an out-of-town participant and would like some details on how to reach the venue, please email info@chennairunners.com

3.      What are the parking facilities available at the venue?
There will be parking facilities available within a 5 min walking distance from the start point.

4.      Event schedule
05:30 am: Half Marathon participants assemble
05:45 am: Instructions and course details de-brief to the half marathon participants
06:00 am: Half Marathon start
06:05: 10k participants assemble
06:15 am: Instructions and course details de-brief to the 10k participants
06:30 am: 10k start
07:30 am: Breakfast counters open
09:30 am: Course for both events close. Aid stations close and return.
09:45 am: Breakfast closes
10:00 am: End of event

5.      Can you provide some details about support and aid stations?
There will be aid stations clearly marked out and available at approximately every 2.5 kms intervals. The support stations will have water, isotonic sports drink (e.g. gatorade), bananas, biscuits and glucose. They would also have basic first aid facilities (such as band-aid, volini spray.

There will be garbage bins/ bag provided close to the aid stations. We request you to dispose off all trash in those bags.

6.      Will there be any medical facility or emergency support provided?
Yes, There will be an ambulance available for any emergency support. There will also be doctors available at the venue.

Apart from these, there are also Course Marshall's who will patrol the course on bicycles.

At any point, if you feel fatigued, dehydrated or too tired to continue, please inform the course marshalls or at any of the support stations and you will be attend to immediately.

7.      Are you providing any timing chips?
We will provide more information on timing chips shortly.

8.      Do you provide any prize money for those finish first or second?
We believe every runner is a winner and we do not provide any prize money for the top finishers. They just get to eat the breakfast early.

9.      How about medals or certificates?
All registered participants will receive a t-shirt which is to be collected during bib distribution. The details of the bib distribution will be announced shortly.

All race finishers will receive a medal.

There will not be any printed certificates. ‘Downloadable’ certificates will be made available to all finishers.

10.  Do you provide breakfast?
Yes. All participants can enjoy a full course buffet breakfast at the end of the tiring but enjoyable run.

The breakfast is included in the participants registration fee. However, there is a charge of Rs 250 for any additional person (e.g. family members or friends) and we request you to inform us by email at info@chennairunners.com if you might be availing of any extra breakfast coupons.

11.  Can I bring any spectators or family members for the race?
Yes, but they will have to remain at the stadium complex. The course winds through IIT and it might be difficult for them to cheer you at different points during the run.

12.  Will there be any media coverage during the event?
We certainly hope so. :-)

Post Race
1.      Are there any other events that you have planned?
Yes. There is an annual Chennai Runners Anniversary 5k run which is typically conducted in March every year.
