Dear Chennai Runners

We are trying out a new starting point for our Sunday runs on a trail basis from tomorrow. We will start from Anna University and do the same classic run with option for some folks to do more within Anna University.

After the run, we will do a 'dutch breakfast' at the cafeteria which opens at 7:30 AM.

Date: March 1, 2009
Day: Sunday
Assemble by : 5.00 a.m
Start Time: 5.15 a.m (sharp)
Starting Location: Anna University - Out cricket grounds near the cafeteria.
Parking: Two options.. 1) Near the main entrance via Raj Bhavan Road 2) Near the side entrance via the Kotturpuram Road. There is plenty of parking available, however it will take 5 minutes walk to get to the starting point so give yourself sufficient time.
Route: Classic or Classic Plus
Distance - The total distance is about 15+ kms.. but you do what you are able to.. and remember.. you can always Do More.. and for that you should Start Running..

Speed session

We are planning to do a speed session tomorrow morning.

Venue: MCC School, Harrington Road.
Time: 5:50 AM
Workout : 1 Mile warm up, 6 x 800 meters (about 4 minutes or whatever speed you can do) with 100 meters recovery, 1 Mile cool down.

ECR 9 Announcement

Starting with the quote from movie Forrest Gump: That day, for no particular reason, I decided to go for a little run. So I ran to the end of the road. And when I got there, I thought maybe I'd run to the end of town. And when I got there, I thought maybe I'd just run across Greenbow County. And I figured, since I run this far, maybe I'd just run across the great state of Alabama. And that's what I did. I ran clear across Alabama. For no particular reason I just kept on going. I ran clear to the ocean. And when I got there, I figured, since I'd gone this far, I might as well turn around, just keep on going. When I got to another ocean, I figured, since I'd gone this far, I might as well just turn back, keep right on going.


On the occasion of Chennai runners membership touching 600, we happily announce the ninth edition of our ECR run - ECR 9.

Date : 22-March-09 (Sunday) to mark your calendars.

Before the Sun peaking in summer let’s peak ourselves and set the ECR on fire.

Let's hit the asphalt back tomorrow after the successful Auroville & Chennai Marathons. Congratulations to everyone who participated.. No matter how much time you took, you are a winner because in this game.. participation counts more than winning the prize money...

Tomorrow we will start with our classic again.. and stay tuned for announcement on Chennai Runners' ECR#9.. will happen in March and will be lot of fun..

Chennai Runners' Membership Touches 600!!!

Happy to share that we are now 600 strong as a group!
It is interesting to note that, while group membership continues to increase steadily, the number of runners we have actually joining us for our runs has not. Over the next few months we hope to see a change and look forward to increasing participation on line and on the road by one and all!!

Second Auroville Marathon - Final Logistics Update

Auroville Marathon is happening is this weekend... Are you ready ? Trained, rested and rearing to go???

This is a final post on logistics.. might be repetitive for some of you.. but just for the benefit of everyone.. here is a summary..

Transport: We have two vans leaving the city on Saturday, one from Chennai Central with Hyderabad Runners and another from Dimensions with folks from Chennai. Following is the confirmed list for the second Van:

Departure Time: We will leave around 1:30 PM from Dimensions. Please plan to arrive at Dimensions using public transport or othermeans as overnight parking of your personal vehicles near Dimensions is not advisable.

Transportation Charges: Rs. 450 per person. Some of you have paid, others please pay on Saturday.

Pasta Party & Accomodation: Balaji has taken care all requests in this regard. Please do bring your own bedding / sleeping bag. Chanresh has also advised us to bring our own torch light, if feasible. Also, please pay the necessary charges for the dinner & accomodation (Rs. 250) to me or Balaji at the earliest.

Race Pack Collection: Organizers will distribute the race pack on Saturday @ 6:00 PM. Please assemble near the reception area to pick up your race pack.

Pasta Party: Will commence after the race pack distribution around 6:30 PM.

ps: I know there are folks taking their own transport to Auroville.. Can you guys give ride to two folks? Bharati & Chethana have requested for transport. If you can accomodate their request.. great.. kindly let me know..

Hong Kong Marathon - Venkatesh Update

Just heard from Venkatesh, One of our own who participated in the Hong Kong Marathon yesterday.

Venkatesh mentioned that the route was a killer with many fly overs to tackle and certainly wasn't a easy course. In spite of the 'obstacle course' like route, I am glad to report that Venkatesh finished with a solid timing of 4:15:00.

Venkatesh.. Congratulations and we are proud of you here at Chennai Runners. Enjoy the well deserved break..

Second Auroville Marathon - Logistics Update # 2

Last week I sent a mail asking for confirmation on the transport request and I am glad to report that we got the confirmations and finalized the transport arrangement.

Thanks to Senthil, we have 2 vans. One would be pick up HYD runners from Central and another would leave from Dimensions with Chennai Runners.

At this stage the transport booking is closed and here is the final list of Chennai Runners who have confirmed the transport requirement.

Expected Date & time of Return: Sunday, Feb 15, 2009, 7:00 PM

Parking: Overnight parking near Dimensions is not advisable. Please use public transport or other means to get to Dimensions.

Cost per person: Rs. 450 approximately. (Please pay by this Sunday if feasible).

Dorm Stay: If you are staying in the Auroville dorms, pl bring your own sleeping bag / bed sheets.

Second Auroville Marathon - Logistics

Second Auroville Marathon is less than two weeks away and many of us are looking forward to it. As we get closer to the run date, we need to finalize some of the logistics and confirm transport need.

We are planning to leave Chennai (from Dimensions) around 2:00 PM on Feb 14, 2009 and return by 6:00 PM on Sunday Feb 15, 2009. We could consider two other pick up points (on the enroute) based on the final list.

Please confirm that you still would like us to arrange for transport. Senthil has done some initial queries and the rental cost for a 18 seater is coming to Rs. 9000+tips for driver. In order for us to move forward on this, we need to have the final headcount by tomorrow. Also, once you confirm we would also like you to pay ASAP, as this will enable to pay the required 'advance' monies to the Van operators.

Action required by you:

1. Please confirm the need for transport by Feb 3, 2009.
2. If you confirm, please pay your portion of the transport cost expected to come @ Rs. 500 - Rs. 600 by Friday, Feb 8, 2009 (to be confirmed based on the final number..)

Balaji would be sending a separate communication on final registration tally, Pasta Party & Accomodation stuff....
