Thursday LSD Run (18th March) @ Alwarpet- Post Run Report

Hi All,

It was a wonderful cool morning with Yash, Vilwa, Ananth and me at the start point. Yash, Vilwa and me decided to run the regular loop of Velankanni Church and back and Ananth decided to do the Malar and back.

Vilwa took off like a jet and Yash and me tagged along with him in a single file with a gap of couple of meters between each one of us. We maintained the same gap till the judges colony and then slowly the gap widened among us, still Yash was ahead of me.

By the time I reached the besant beach Vilwa had taken the turn at Velankanni Church and his pace was still same and was running effortlessly!!! Just before the turn I saw Yash and Senthilanand (he ran from his home to Besant Beach) doing mild stretches and soon I joined them and started the run again after a minute break.

On our back at the besant avenue stretch I suggested that three of us would fall into a single file and we take turns to lead. This was just to make the run more interesting. We followed this till we reached the judges colony and took a walk break and once we reached the Greenways Road we once again set off for the final stretch. Yash took off, Senthilanand and me were tagging along.

Finally it turned out to be a good run for all. This was followed by a good stretching session lead by Yash. Thanks Vilwa,Yash and Senthilanand for a good run and stretch.

Sunday Long Run (14th Mar 2010) Post Run Report

Hi All,

We were nine of us at the start point.

1.Narayanan
2.Ramesh Seshadri
3.Vilwa
4.Senthilanand
5.Sakthi
6.Bhargav
7.Yash
8.Shameek
9.Shankar Lal M Patel

We started with a good stretching pre-run and started the run at around 5:23 am and all decided to do a Classic Plus route. For some time I was leading all (which meant I was running at a faster pace than my normal) and slowly when we reached kotturpuram bridge slowly everyone overtook me and it was me and Shameek running together through the boat club loop, greenways road and just before the judges' colony I started walking and asked Shameek to go ahead. Shameek joined Bhargav for some time and then I was running with Bhargav on the Malar Hospital Bridge and Bhargav declared he wanted to do 10k as he is recovering from shin splints. I then turned left towards Besant Avenue and was running all alone till I reached AU.

At the time of finish, the crowd was bigger than the start since few more runners had joined subsequently (Anbu, Niranjan, Senthilanand's brother, Chandana, Ramani, few more runners).

Also we met Shahid whose had run for 2 hours and had to run 2 more hours. Yesterday he had run for 2 hours along with Karthik and VPS.

We started the stretching session lead by Yash and all felt good. The young man (sorry I don't know his name and remember he was there at our Anniversary), who runs regularly on the AU Ground tracks had brought some photos of his Yogaasan Postures and all were just dumbstruck. He twists his body like elastic effortlessly and he said for Long Distance runners yoga would help a lot for injury-free running.

The climate was runner friendly compared to the week days. Cloudy and less humid and was comparatively cooler.

Long, fun run from Nungambakkam

Today was a different run from the Nungambakkam chapter. For starters, we didn't run in Nungambakkam, but at Marina.

Run part 1: Shahid and I (Karthik) started off just before 5:30 aiming for a 2 hour run. We were doing a 9:1 R:W. We saw VPS waving as he sped past us in his bike at the Music Academy flyover, and later met him, Ramani and Venkat Krishna at the light house.

Run part 2: After that break, it was Shahid, VPS and me running the length of Marina, turned into the nicely and newly laid Swami Sivananda rd (BSNL road) and then past the spanking new Secretariat into Wallaja road, which too has been relaid and widened. VPS then invited over to take a sneak peek into the TNCA club at Chepauk and took us right to the edge of the hallowed turf of the MA Chidambaram stadium. Quiet today, but is going to be electrifying tomorrow with the CSK match coming up.

Run part 3: So, that was very nice. Continued on after that brief sojourn and got back to Marina and met Chandana near Gandhi statue. Then, we decided to go for coffee.

Shahid and I continued on through RK salai and got to the Saravana Bhavan, where we had VPS already waiting (he took the bike from Marina to the Saravana Bhavan) with 3 cups of coffee. Chandana came biking along shortly.

So, here we are, in the middle of our 3rd break (or was it the fourth?) sipping coffee.

Run part 4: Oh yeah, the run wasn't over yet. We had the coffee and continued on running back and got home some 20 odd mins later.

I've read somewhere that coffee wasn't necessarily a bad thing for runners, and I experienced that first hand today. The coffee was good and the coffee was good. Sorry, bad joke. => It seemed to energize the running actually and the last 3-4 kms after the coffee went quite well.

I think it came to ~18.5k for me, ~20k for Shahid, ~9k for VPS, and I don't know how much for Ramani, Venkatakrishna and Chandana.

It was a bizarre run but good fun. :-).

Thursday LSD Run - Alwarpet - Post Run Report

Hi All,

We were six of us at the start point.

1. Narayanan
2. Yash
3. Senthilanand
4. Sushil Kumar
5. Ananth
6. Shankar Lal M Patel

We decided to do the Velankanni Church and back. Narayanan, Yash and Senthilanand tagged along the whole distance. I was with Ananth for the first 1kms and then took off to accompany Sushil and were together till the end. But we did only till Rajaji Bhavan and back. I had to take walk breaks for 4 to 5 times. But finally was good run. Ananth had done run/walk till Malar Hospital and back.

We also could feel the beginning of summer. The stretch session by Yash was good and Senthilanand looked more flexible.

We had a surprise check by none other than our own Ram Viswanathan!!!!!

Wednesday Easy Run (Chromepet) - Post Run Report

Hi All,

Ananth and I had decided to run easy today and had started the run around 6:00 am. We ran on the Pallavaram - Thoraipakkam 100 ft radial road. Could see lot of people walking/jogging/running.

We had decided do it as 3:1 (3min run : 1min walk) as this would help the beginners like Ananth to build up the endurance progressively.

It was good run and was 5kms in 46 mins.

Hi All,

We were all 5 of us.

1.Yash
2.Senthilanand
3.Abdi
4.Ananthkrishnan
5.Shankar Lal M Patel

Today we were two of us from Chromepet, myself and Ananth, Yash and Senthilanand started running and just few hundred meters we would have run and we saw Abdi coming in Auto to join us. Senthil and Abdi tagged along. Yash, Ananth and me were running together. Since Ananth had just began running from today after a long time, he was struggling a little. I could remember my days exactly one year before and not able to run continuously for 5kms.

We reached the end of Greenways Road and Ananth preferred to turn back and other four went ahead till Velankanni Church and back.

Finally it was a good run with 7.67miles (12.34kms) in 1h:27mins @ avg pace of 5.3mph (8.5kmph).

Tuesday Run (2nd March) - Gandhi Vanakkam - Post Run Report

Hi All,

A very brief report.

Narayanan, Yash and Me had a fantastic run till Gandhi Statue and back and all felt great after the run.

I had pushed myself a bit harder by averaging the run at 6miles/Hour (9.65km/h) and had run a distance of 5.72 miles (9.2kms) in 60 minutes.

Yash gave a good insight about weights and body strengthening.

Thanks Narayanan and Yash for the good run.

Earlier Announcement - Feb 9, 2010
Dear Chennai Runners

It looks like just yesterday.. Vidyuth, Hari & I used to ran together.. huffing and puffing even to do a few kms at a stretch.  We have come (run) long from that humble beginning 4 years back.  We are now close 800 strong and have several 'marathoners' in our midst.  We have planted a seed that is slowly but steadily picking up stream in Chennai and across the world.  Yes, some of the Chennai Runners have moved to other parts of the world but are very much a Chennai Runner @ heart and they keep running.

In order to celebrate our small victories, we have planned for a Anniversary Celebration Run on March 7, 2010.  This will be in the city and in place of the earlier announced ECR12 run.

Stay tuned for more details about the Anniversary Celebration Run.. In the mean time.. Keep Running and Keep Smiling..
